Title IX and Civil Rights
Title IX Policy
The Foster School District is committed to maintaining an educational environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. In compliance with Title IX and applicable laws, we ensure equality of opportunity in all educational programs and activities we operate.
We will not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, ethnicity, age, veteran or military status, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal in admissions, access, treatment, or employment within our district.
Definition of Sex
Consistent with federal guidance as of January 2025, the district recognizes "sex" as a binary biological attribute (male or female) determined at birth.
Prohibition of Harassment
The district prohibits sexual harassment and all forms of discriminatory harassment. Any acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying that interfere with a student’s or employee’s participation in district programs will be addressed promptly and thoroughly.
Reporting and Grievance Procedures
The district encourages all members of the community to report incidents of discrimination or harassment. Reports will be handled confidentially, and appropriate corrective actions will be taken to address any violations.
Education and Training
To foster understanding and compliance with Title IX and civil rights laws, the Foster School District will provide training and education to staff and students. Training topics will include the prevention of discrimination and harassment, reporting procedures, and the rights and responsibilities of all parties under Title IX.
