School Improvement Plan (2025-26)

Priority 1: Improving English Language Arts Proficiency
We will work to improve all students’ proficiency in ELA.

Captain Isaac Paine will work to increase students’ overall literacy proficiency through rigorous goalsetting. Captain Isaac Paine will support staff through professional development opportunities and evidence based curriculum resources.

Measurable Goals

Goal #1 - Students will increase proficiency in the subject area of reading and writing according to the Rhode Island CCSS with the goal of an increase in RICAS ELA scores by 5% among all students, by spring 2026.

Initiative 1: Captain Isaac Paine will continually review all data available in order to make informed decision regarding literacy based practices.

Data will be continually reviewed in order to inform instructional practices.

Educators will continue to apply science of reading strategies, throughout daily lessons, in order to enhance instructional opportunities and outcomes for all.

Captain Isaac Paine will implement a new K-5 ELA screener, Acadience, known for its’ focus on early ELA foundational skills. Acadience was chosen because of its ability to carefully monitor the developing and transitional literacy skills through the later fluency and advanced skills stages, which ultimately lead to advancement and achievement in ELA for students.

All educators will take part in a professional development day focused on RI Common Standards in ELA: Sections, Strands and Grade Level Specific Standards and then learn how to integrate such standards into the Wit and Wisdom reading program.

During monthly data team meetings, grade levels teams and special educators will meet with the literacy coach to review student assessment data and make decisions regarding student groupings, classroom instruction/intervention foci and student monitoring to foster achievement and growth.

After consideration of ELA standards and school-wide data review, Captain Isaac Paine will create and implement shared, common writing expectations and strategies, with visual support where needed, for short and long term responses.

Geodes, supplemental reading materials to support the core ELA curriculum, will be purchased, utilized, and integrated into literacy instruction by special educators in order to enhance opportunities for achievement and growth within the ELA.

Priority 2: Improving Math Proficiency
We will work to improve all students’ proficiency in mathematics.

Captain Isaac Paine will work to increase students’ overall math proficiency through research-based best practices and rigorous goal setting. Captain Isaac Paine will support staff through professional development opportunities and evidence based curriculum resources.

Goal #1 - Students will increase proficiency in the subject area of mathematics according to the Rhode Island CCSS with the goal of an increase in RICAS math scores by 5% among all students, by spring 2026.

Captain Isaac Paine will integrate research-based practices in mathematics in order to inform and tailor instruction to meet diverse students’ needs.

After consideration of Learn365RI Municipal Learning Project funding, Captain Isaac Paine will implement a data-driven afterschool program for targeted students K-5. Instruction to emphasize number sense, computation and problem solving using evidence-based best practices.

Captain Isaac Paine will work to increase students’ overall science proficiency through  enhanced focus on science content and instruction.

Goal #1 - Students will increase proficiency in the subject area of science, according to Rhode Island’s NGSS, with the goal of an increase in NGSA scores by 5%.
